Educational Section
MCS is committed to providing all residents of Lafayette
and Acadia Parishes with as much information as possible
regarding mosquitoes, their life cycle, their habits, and
elimination of breeding areas.
Many are unaware that they are breeding mosquitoes around
their home. Look at this
diagram of a
yard. There are many areas in every yard that can breed
mosquitoes. Examples are old tires, cans, buckets, flower
pots, rain barrels, and any item that can hold water. Removing these breeding sites
is commonly known as
source
reduction
. By taking a few moments a week, you can do
your part to stop mosquito breeding.
MCCI's Public Education Director, Mr. Glenn Stokes, has
presentations available for pre-schools, elementary schools,
senior citizens, clubs and organizations. These
presentations are given in Lafayette and Acadia parishes.
Anyone interested in such a presentation or have any
questions, please contact Mr. Stokes at (337) 593-0123
or (337) 785-4456 between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM,
Monday - Friday.
If you go to our
Educational Links page, you will find this and much
more. Also, if you are a farmer or rancher who has horses,
we also have information for you.
You may be wondering about West Nile Virus (WNV for short).
We have researched and found the information you need, and
we hope you will find these resources helpful. We appreciate
that you are reading through the information we have
gathered and put on this site. We hope you will find it
helpful to you and easy to understand, so you can help control and prevent the
breeding of mosquitoes.
